I’m quite surprised to know that the system I’ve been using since 2011 to hire remarkable writers has a name. And that Eben Pagan also recommends using this system to hire superstar staff.
Yesterday’s video from Tony Robbins resonated with me so much, reminded me of the hiring process I’ve been following since 2011 that I felt compelled to share and talk about it.
Here’s what I’ve been doing since 2011 and here’s what Eben recommends too:
According to Eben, one of the most valuable things he’s done while and after hiring is using the system of “Daily Update”.
On Day 1, he tells the new joinee, “We’re gonna be working together and I’d like you to send me daily update. Send it to me daily. It should take you no more than 5-10 minutes. If it takes you more than 5-10 minutes, there something you aren’t doing right”.
Okay so here’s what Eben recommends asking the new joinees to send in the Daily Update:
1) What I did today. What results I got today.
2) Here are the problems and challenges I faced today.
3) Here are the questions I have for you.
The questions I ask my writers are slightly different but the meaning & process is almost the same.
There are very few writers who send me the update email everyday consistently for 40-50 days in a row. Very few.
I totally agree with Eben that if you watch someone’s daily update, you will learn so much about them. I’ve employed hundreds of writers. And I can vouch for the fact that only 2% consistently send the update email, have any concrete results to share or questions for me. Writers in the 2% bracket get the chance to join the team and be my long term writers. And I offer lots of freelance projects and profit-sharing opportunities to the writers in the 2% bracket.
As Tony says, these writers are activity driven, they are curious about solving problems, looking for solutions and growing as writers.
